Drownings in Pursat, Kampong Chhnang and Battambang

As the rainy season enters full swing, three people died in separate drowning incidents across the Kingdom on Sunday, authorities said yesterday.

In one case in Pursat province, victim Sok Siya, 29 – a resident of Krakor district’s Sna Ansa commune – drowned while drinking and swimming with friends at the Danak Kranh dam, according to Krakor district police chief Em Run.

In Kampong Chhnang, meanwhile, 17-year-old Mom Sovannda, of Rolea Ba’ier district’s Ban-teay Preal commune drowned while swimming with his friends at a local reservoir.

Sovannda was reportedly caught under a water-regulating structure known as the Mphei U’Saphea water gate, said Cheang Sovannrith, chief of Boribor district police.

Finally, in Battambang province, 15-year-old Hang Sa Iem, of Battambang town’s Tuol Ta Ek commune, drowned after slipping off of a bridge crossing the Sangke River, whose current was very rapid thanks to recent rains.

En Rotha, Battambang town deputy police chief, said that Sa Iem “fell into the Sangke River on Sunday evening, but the body was found and brought ashore on Monday morning”.
